INEVA establishes environmentalist facilities that generates energy from sewage sludge in Kocaeli

INEVA Çevre Teknolojileri AŞ will establish two facilities that will generate electrical energy from sewage sludge from the ‘Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plants’ in Gebze and Başiskele Kullar operated by Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Water and Sewerage Administration (ISU). An average of 200 tons of sludge will be thermally treated per day when the facilities, which are planned to be commissioned in 2017, are operational. In the facility established, 2 MW of electricity will be produced per hour within the scope of renewable energy from steam energy.

Onur Taş, Coşkunöz Holding's Energy Director and General Manager of INEVA Çevre Teknolojileri AŞ., in his written statement, emphasized that INEVA is the first fully localized enterprise that undertakes thermal processing with 100% Turkish technology. Taş, stating that 200 tons of sludge per day is expurged from ISU-operated Gebze and Başiskele / Kullar Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plants, said that, “In the current system, the sludge was incinerated in cement plants. This brought about a load of 10 million Turkish Liras a year to the ISU. Thanks to the facilities we will build, ISU will eliminate the sludge by incinerating it without drying process and at the same time obtain electricity.”

TAILOR-STYLE WORK
Saying that in ‘waste disposal by incineration’ technology imported resources usage is intense and therefore foreign-source dependency is high, Onur Taş expressed that they have developed domestic technology with collaborative work with The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) in order to overcome this problem. Stating that they offer the domestic technology to institutions and businesses that demand it, Taş said that, “We work as a tailor to make the necessary measurements and analyse the needs. With the engineering studies we carry out within our own structure, we reveal the optimum investment scale and thus prevent unnecessary investment. Another advantage is that we perform turnkey, performance guaranteed plant installation as compact units where waste is produced.”

ELECTRICITY WILL ALSO BE GENERATED
Onur Taş said that they will obtain about 5 million Turkish Liras of electricity sales per year from the steam generated during the incineration of sludge at the ‘Thermal Disposal and Electricity Generation’ facilities to be constructed for ISU by them.

FULLY DOMESTIC TECHNOLOGY
On the other hand, INEVA General Manager Onur Taş reminded that the foundations of INEVA Çevre Teknolojileri A.Ş., which was established for localizing waste disposal facilities and eliminating foreign dependency and contributing to the national economy, were laid in 2004. Onur Taş, stating that the ‘Thermal Disposal’ technology, developed with Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), was the environmental project, which received the highest grant rate of the year and which was the first waste incineration project commissioned with a fully domestic capital, said that, “We have installed 6 facilities in the last 3 years. We increased our strength by joining Coşkunöz Holding in May 2016. INEVA Çevre Teknolojileri AŞ aims to become the most preferred company in waste disposal technologies by rapidly increasing the number of facilities that produce “clean energy” in Turkey and abroad while producing innovative solutions to the environmental problem.”
